An Ethiopian delegation has departed for Pakistan to launch the “Plant Fraternity” initiative, a collaborative environmental effort designed to strengthen ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan. The delegation will visit Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, engaging in activities focused on tree planting and environmental awareness as part of Ethiopia’s broader Green Legacy Initiative.
Prior to their departure, the delegation was honored with a farewell ceremony at the Adwa Museum in Addis Ababa. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Ethiopia’s State Minister for Cabinet and Sector Oversight, Aklilu Tadesse, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Ethiopia Atif Sharif Mian, representatives from the African Union, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. This show of support underscored the significance both nations place on environmental collaboration.
The Plant Fraternity initiative is being coordinated by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad. Its main objective is to showcase the success of Ethiopia’s national Green Legacy Initiative, which has achieved global recognition for its large-scale tree planting and ecological restoration efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
During their stay in Pakistan, the Ethiopian delegation will carry indigenous Ethiopian seedlings and participate in a series of Green Dialogues and mass plantation ceremonies. These events are being organized in partnership with several key stakeholders in Pakistan, including the Senate of Pakistan, COMSTECH, the Capital Development Authority in Islamabad, the governments of Punjab and Sindh, the Governor House Sindh, Ethiopian Airlines, and Bukhari Group.
By sharing its experience and fostering joint action, Ethiopia hopes this initiative will deepen bilateral relations and promote sustainable environmental practices across both countries.
