EU and GIZ launch €20m support to drive Pakistan's green transition for export-oriented SMEs and boost compliance with EU environmental standards.

Today the European Union signed a new agreement with GIZ to support export-oriented SMEs in Pakistan in their green transition.

The €20 million support programme will strengthen the legislative environment for small and medium enterprises, provide technical assistance and funding to help businesses meet EU environmental standards, and foster sustained public–private dialogue to guide reforms.

By helping exporters adapt to greener production practices and regulatory expectations, the initiative aims to preserve competitiveness and market access for Pakistani SMEs while encouraging investment in cleaner technologies, an essential step in the broader green transition.

Local government bodies and industry representatives will be engaged throughout implementation so that assistance reflects practical needs on the ground and supports Pakistan’s export-oriented economy.

The programme is part of wider Team Europe cooperation and aligns with EU climate action and international partnerships designed to support sustainable development and resilient trade linkages.
