Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal reviews polio eradication and routine vaccination plans with partners, urging transparency and effective implementation.

A high-level meeting chaired by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal concentrated on polio eradication and the strengthening of routine immunization across Pakistan. Senior officials including the Secretary Health, Additional Secretary, Director General Health, DG (FDI) and the NEOC National Coordinator attended to review progress and coordinate next steps.

Representatives from WHO, UNICEF and Gavi joined the discussion and exchanged views on vaccination strategies and operational planning. The partners highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to advance polio eradication while supporting routine vaccine delivery at the district level.

Participants conducted a detailed review of the annual polio budget, assessing the total cost alongside financial and operational considerations to ensure resources are allocated efficiently for the upcoming campaigns. The financial assessment aimed to align funds with targeted field activities critical to sustained impact in high-risk areas.

A comprehensive performance report on the current vaccination campaign was presented to the meeting, detailing coverage, gaps and operational challenges. The report informed discussions on how to optimize field implementation and monitor progress toward polio eradication targets.

The federal minister stressed that “polio eradication is not solely a government task but a national responsibility” and called for effective strategies in partnership with international stakeholders to reach every child. He emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability and timely execution to achieve campaign objectives.

Deliberations also addressed measures to protect every child from polio and the hurdles faced during vaccination drives. The minister urged all relevant agencies to ensure transparency and robust implementation of polio campaigns while promoting routine immunization as a complementary pillar of public health protection.
