Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Health, held an important meeting in Islamabad with Dr Asim Javed, Head of the Cardiology Department at RIC Hospital, to review current capacity for acute stroke intervention. The discussion focused on how existing services are organised and the immediate needs to strengthen timely care for stroke patients.
The two officials examined the state of acute stroke intervention facilities and addressed key challenges affecting patient outcomes. Conversations explored diagnostic pathways, availability of specialised personnel and infrastructure, and the coordination required between emergency services and hospital teams to ensure rapid treatment. Emphasis was placed on identifying practical steps to reduce delays and improve access to critical stroke care across the capital region.
Modern treatment methods were also a central topic, with both sides reviewing advances in stroke intervention and their applicability within RIC Hospital. They discussed integrating current protocols with evolving treatment options and the role of multidisciplinary care in improving recovery rates. The meeting concluded with a shared priority to enhance the hospital’s capacity for comprehensive stroke intervention and to further evaluate measures that can be taken to strengthen clinical response and patient support.
