A high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Health Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal reviewed the Dengue Islamabad situation as officials were briefed on the spread of the disease, the current caseload and ongoing control measures in the capital and other affected areas.
The meeting brought together the Federal Secretary Health, the Additional Secretary, Director General Health, Joint Secretary Health and the District Health Officer Islamabad to assess surveillance data and response capacity for Dengue Islamabad and neighbouring districts.
The minister directed that dengue prevention campaigns be strengthened to curb Dengue Islamabad transmission and that dedicated wards be allocated in hospitals for dengue patients. He emphasised that availability of medicines, beds and diagnostic facilities must be ensured across all health providers.
Mr. Kamal said the government is taking coordinated steps to curb the spread of dengue, noting a recent rise in cases linked to heavy rains. Special measures are being intensified in high-risk neighbourhoods, including Bhara Kahu, with stepped-up surveillance, targeted spraying, precautionary actions and public awareness drives.
He instructed district administrations to play an active role in improving sanitation systems while urging citizens to strictly follow Ministry of Health guidelines for dengue prevention. Media and civil society were also called upon to support awareness efforts and reinforce prevention messages at community level.
“The protection of public health is the government’s top priority. We will utilize all available resources to safeguard people from epidemics and diseases,” Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal said, underscoring the focus on rapid response and community cooperation in tackling dengue in Islamabad.
