Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized the importance of strong institutions and transparent systems for sustainable development, addressing the closing ceremony of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Asia Pacific Mid-Year Conference 2025 in Islamabad as the chief guest. In his speech, Gilani highlighted the need for effective accountability mechanisms and praised the vital role of engineering professionals in Pakistan’s progress.
Gilani noted that during his tenure as Prime Minister, he actively promoted public-private partnerships to foster growth and development. He called for the creation of a regulatory environment that encourages business and innovation, stressing that an efficient legal framework is essential for the engineering sector to thrive. The Chairman assured that the Senate will extend full support to impactful legislation for the profession.
Addressing the importance of international standards and transparency in infrastructure projects, Gilani urged stakeholders to uphold global benchmarks in road, bridge, and network construction, describing these assets as fundamental drivers of national development, not mere structures. He also expressed appreciation to development partners for their ongoing cooperation and support to Pakistan.
Gilani emphasized the urgent need for prudent management of public resources, considering it a vital requirement for the nation’s progress. He reiterated the country’s ethical and strategic obligation to empower its youth, considering them pivotal to Pakistan’s future.
