Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sarwet Rasul and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Fatima Jinnah Women University hosted the opening two days of a three-day international interdisciplinary Design Conference that brought together academics, practitioners and students to examine culture, technology and sustainability.
The first session was chaired online by Canadian digital and multimedia artist Ahsan Taqveem and co-chaired by Dr. Qaiser Khan from Foundation University, Islamabad. Presentations reflected international and national perspectives and included Ms. Nabiha Durrani, a PhD candidate at INTI International University, Malaysia; an Assistant Professor from the Institute of Design & Visual Arts at Lahore College for Women University; Ms. Afshan Jamal of Fatima Jinnah Women University; and Ms. Sadaf Hammad, an art educationist and visual artist.
The second session, chaired by Dr. Shafia Azam and co-chaired by Sajjad Gul, Content Head at PTV, showcased research and practice that linked design thinking with community and media. Presenters included PhD research scholar Ms. Mehvish Muzaffar, Dr. Uzma Imtiaz from FJWU, Ms. Darakhshan Batool of the Computer Arts Department at FJWU, Ms. Nuzhat Bashir, and MPhil scholar Mr. Awrang Khan from the University of Peshawar.
Throughout both days the Design Conference emphasized interdisciplinary dialogue and the role of design in addressing social and environmental challenges, offering a platform for Pakistani scholars and international contributors to exchange ideas and build collaborations. The three-day event continues to spotlight creative education, sustainable design and the future of design practice in Pakistan.
