FMG refunds secured after Senate committee intervention as PMDC returns fees, easing burdens for hundreds of overseas medical graduates.

The Senate Health Committee’s recent review prompted swift action that has led to the return of fees to many foreign medical graduates, providing relief to hundreds of young doctors who had been awaiting resolution. The focus on FMG refunds followed concerns raised during the committee hearing and was quickly taken up by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in line with committee directions.

Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto played a central role in bringing the issue to the committee’s attention, prompting the PMDC to move promptly to address outstanding claims. The timely intervention helped accelerate the refund process and reduced uncertainty for overseas-qualified medical professionals seeking clarity on their dues.

The FMG community expressed appreciation for the leadership shown by the PMDC, especially Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj and Brig. (R) Dr. Rehan Naqvi, for implementing the committee’s directives and facilitating refunds efficiently. On behalf of foreign medical graduates, Dr. Rafey Sher conveyed gratitude to Senator Bhutto and PMDC officials for their cooperation and responsiveness in resolving the matter.

Stakeholders in Islamabad and across Pakistan welcomed the outcome and urged continued coordination between parliamentarians and regulatory authorities to ensure transparency, fairness and ongoing facilitation for qualified medical professionals. The resolution of FMG refunds is seen as a positive example of oversight translating into concrete relief for graduates trained overseas.
