FMGs rights secure backing from PPP, MQM, ANP and allies as leaders push for legal protections and healthcare reform.

A growing political coalition in Islamabad has thrown its weight behind the campaign for FMGs rights, as party leaders meet with the movement led by Dr. Rafey Sher to press for legislative reforms and legal recognition. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has pledged full support for the FMGs cause after formal discussions with Dr. Rafey Sher and his team, signaling a key moment for advocates seeking equal treatment for foreign medical graduates across Pakistan.

Amir Moin Peerzada, MNA from MQM, confirmed his party’s endorsement following productive meetings in Islamabad with Dr. Rafey Sher. Peerzada emphasized MQM’s commitment to ensuring that FMGs rights are protected and that their concerns are represented in policy discussions. The MQM backing adds momentum to the growing cross-party support for changes affecting FMGs nationwide.

Leaders from the Awami National Party have also voiced support, and select members of JUI-F have indicated a willingness to align with the demand for reforms. Together with PPP and MQM, these developments reflect an expanding political consensus around the need to address barriers faced by foreign medical graduates in obtaining legal protections, access to healthcare roles, and social security benefits.

Dr. Rafey Sher said, “PPP’s commitment will be instrumental in advancing the reforms needed to guarantee FMGs rights and fair treatment under the law.” He and his team are focusing efforts on converting political endorsements into concrete legislative measures that secure recognition, improve access to medical practice, and extend social protections for FMGs working in Pakistan.

Stakeholders are now looking to parliamentary action to translate party support into policy change. Advocates for FMGs expect that the coalition led by PPP, with support from MQM, ANP and sympathetic members of other parties, will push for clear statutory protections, streamlined accreditation, and better inclusion of foreign medical graduates in the country’s healthcare workforce.

The emerging political unity in Islamabad underscores the local relevance of this campaign: securing FMGs rights is framed not only as an issue of fairness for graduates but also as a step toward strengthening Pakistan’s health services by enabling qualified professionals to contribute fully and securely.
