A letter of intent and a detailed work plan were signed between French representatives and senior officials from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research to set phytosanitary requirements for the export of seed potatoes from France to Pakistan. The agreement is intended to allow Pakistani farmers access to certified planting material while safeguarding plant health through jointly agreed protocols.
The work plan specifies inspection, testing and certification procedures that exporters and Pakistani authorities will follow to ensure seed potatoes meet the agreed standards. These measures aim to reduce the risk of pests and diseases while facilitating smoother trade in certified seed material.
French officials reaffirmed their support for Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen agricultural output, food security and sustainable development. Both sides highlighted opportunities for broader cooperation in trade, technical support, investment, training and education that can help improve seed quality and crop performance for Pakistani growers.
As part of the cooperation, France invited Pakistani government officials and private sector companies to the Paris International Agricultural Show, scheduled for February 21 to March 1, 2026, offering a platform to explore partnerships, technology and market opportunities related to seed potatoes and other agricultural inputs.
Officials said the arrangement will prioritise transparent implementation and close coordination between agencies to ensure that certified seed potatoes imports contribute positively to crop production and long-term resilience of Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
