LAHORE: Punjab’s 17-year-old weightlifter Furqan Ahmad established new national records in the 88kg men’s category on the third day of the National Weightlifting Championships at the Coaching Centre, Lahore.
Furqan lifted 145kg in snatch and 180kg in clean and jerk, recording a total of 325kg. His previous total at the 35th National Championship held in Karachi in 2025 was 315kg.
Meanwhile, another under-17 weightlifter from Punjab, Haider Shakaib, won the 94kg bodyweight category. He lifted 137kg in snatch and 150kg in clean and jerk for a total of 287kg.
Haider is an under-15 silver medallist of the Far East Cup held in Russia in 2024.
Both young weightlifters are training under highly decorated coaches Shujauddin Malik, a Commonwealth and South Asian Games champion and record holder, and Sajjad Amin Malik, a South Asian Games champion and record holder.
