UNFPA Pakistan, with funding from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Pakistan, supported the National Commission on the Status of Women in Islamabad in efforts to build consensus on a gender parity framework to be applied at both provincial and national levels. The initiative aims to create a unified approach to measuring and advancing gender equality across Pakistan.
The support enabled the Commission to convene stakeholders and advance discussions on core principles, indicators and implementation mechanisms for the proposed framework. By focusing on consensus building, the effort seeks to align priorities among diverse provincial authorities and federal institutions so the framework can be applied consistently across regions.
The gender parity framework is intended to provide standardized metrics and policy guidance to track progress on women’s representation, access to services, and socio-economic opportunities. A common framework would help identify gaps, set targets, and coordinate interventions across government agencies and partners.
Going forward, the National Commission on the Status of Women, supported by UNFPA and the Embassy of the Netherlands, will work toward finalizing the framework and promoting its adoption at provincial and national levels. Broad uptake is expected to strengthen monitoring, policy coherence and collaborative action to advance gender equality throughout the country.
