Islamabad, 26 November 2025 — The German Ambassador to Pakistan met Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at Parliament House today to discuss ways to deepen Germany Pakistan ties and expand parliamentary and people-to-people exchanges.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq underlined the long-standing cooperative relationship between the two countries and stressed that parliamentary linkages are vital to strengthening bilateral cooperation. He noted that the Parliament of Pakistan holds the distinction of being the first parliament in the world to be fully powered by solar energy, a milestone that reflects Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development.
The Speaker outlined parliamentary initiatives on social justice, highlighting the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights as active platforms protecting women and children. He also informed the Ambassador about a Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, composed of members from both Houses, which is working on legislative reforms and institutional mechanisms to promote women’s empowerment.
Addressing regional security, Mr Sadiq expressed grave concern over a recent surge in terrorist incidents that have been traced to elements operating from Afghan soil, saying misuse of territory continues to pose a serious challenge to Pakistan’s security. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and recalled the country’s long-standing humanitarian response in hosting more than four million Afghan refugees over the past four decades despite economic constraints.
The Speaker reiterated that all religions categorically reject extremism and terrorism and urged peaceful resolution of conflicts as essential for regional stability. He emphasized that enhanced parliamentary diplomacy can build mutual understanding and support constructive bilateral ties.
Ambassador Ina Lepel welcomed Pakistan’s democratic progress and ongoing reform efforts, commending initiatives on gender equality and child protection. She reaffirmed Germany’s interest in strengthening parliamentary engagement and expanding cooperation in economic, social and climate-related sectors.
Both sides agreed to pursue increased parliamentary exchanges and collaborative work on climate resilience, gender mainstreaming and counterterrorism to further consolidate Germany Pakistan ties.
