Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attended a reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Islamabad to mark the 5th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Victory, joining the ambassador, diplomatic corps members and distinguished guests in paying tribute to the milestone.

Offering warm felicitations to the Government and people of Azerbaijan, the Acting President described the anniversary as a proud chapter in Azerbaijan’s modern history, reflecting resilience, unity and the reaffirmation of sovereignty under determined leadership.

Gilani highlighted the long-standing bonds between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, saying the relationship rests on mutual trust, shared aspirations and steadfast solidarity. He pointed to deep civilisational connections such as the 14th-century Multani Caravanserai in Baku as evidence of centuries-old people-to-people and cultural ties that underpin contemporary cooperation.

Recounting recent visits to Azerbaijan, Gilani spoke of the warmth he received from leaders and citizens alike and called Baku a home away from home. He praised President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker Sahiba Gafarova as trusted partners, and thanked Ambassador Khazar Farhadov for his efforts to expand bilateral engagement.

The Acting President underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy, noting that the Senate of Pakistan and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan have deepened ties through sustained dialogue and institutional cooperation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary links as a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship.

Gilani said Pakistan-Azerbaijan cooperation has broadened across trade, energy, defence and education, reflecting a partnership that is strategic and fraternal rather than transactional. He paid tribute to the people of Azerbaijan for their progress and resilience and said their story of renewal is an inspiration for nations seeking peace through fairness and resolve.

Reiterating Pakistan’s readiness to work closely with Azerbaijan for a more stable and prosperous region, the Acting President expressed appreciation for ongoing diplomatic efforts and pledged continued collaboration. He closed his remarks by celebrating the enduring friendship between the two countries and declaring “Long Live Pakistan-Azerbaijan Friendship.”
