Global Experts Gather in Rawalpindi for 2nd International Precision Agriculture Conference at Arid University

Rawalpindi: Pakistan’s agriculture sector is set to take a major leap toward innovation and sustainability as the 2nd International Precision Agriculture Conference & Expo begins on October 20, 2025, at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR). The three-day event will feature leading experts and researchers from Canada, the USA, China, and other countries, making it one of the largest global forums on agricultural technology ever hosted in Pakistan.

The conference, organized under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, is being hailed as a landmark initiative aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s agriculture through digital and precision-based technologies. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry will attend as the chief guest at the opening ceremony, while Senator and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Mr. Rana Sana Ullah Khan will inaugurate the Agri-Expo, which will run parallel to the main conference.

According to the university, the conference will include eight technical sessions, field demonstrations, and an extensive agricultural technology exhibition showcasing cutting-edge equipment and automation solutions. Experts will discuss critical global challenges such as climate change adaptation, sustainable food production, and the role of artificial intelligence in modern agriculture.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasized that the conference represents a “turning point” in Pakistan’s pursuit of agricultural self-sufficiency. “We are bringing together global expertise to help local farmers transition from traditional to precision farming systems,” he said, adding that collaboration between international researchers and domestic stakeholders will help Pakistan tackle pressing issues like water scarcity, crop loss, and yield optimization.

By promoting dialogue between policymakers, scientists, and agribusiness leaders, the event seeks to build pathways for transforming Pakistan’s agriculture into a high-efficiency, technology-driven sector. Organizers said the discussions and demonstrations will offer practical solutions for farmers seeking to integrate automation, data analytics, and climate-smart practices into their operations.

The Agri-Expo component of the event will allow participants to explore machinery and digital tools from international manufacturers and local innovators. The exhibition aims to connect researchers and the private sector with Pakistan’s farming community to accelerate the country’s shift toward precision agriculture.

The conference will conclude on October 22, with the adoption of a joint declaration focused on policy recommendations and future collaborations in smart agriculture, data management, and technological exchange.
