Global Samoud Flotilla Attacked: Violation of International Law and Humanity

Peace agreements are being used to legitimize Israel’s illegal occupation

The ongoing atrocities in Palestine and the siege of Gaza have mobilized human rights activists, journalists, parliamentarians, and humanitarian organizations around the world. In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis, a peaceful maritime aid convoy named “Global Samoud Flotilla” was organized. Its mission was to deliver food, medicine, and essential supplies to the besieged people of Gaza.

This convoy had become a symbol of hope for millions worldwide. Its journey was followed closely by media and social media, with countless people praying for its success. However, last night Israeli occupying forces, in blatant violation of international law, attacked the convoy and arrested several participants.

Among those onboard was Pakistan’s former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, a long-standing and vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause. He has consistently raised his voice for Palestinians, leading peaceful protests and sit-ins in Islamabad despite arrests, FIRs, and state pressure. His participation in this flotilla reflects the sentiments and principled stance of the Pakistani nation.

While global powers and the U.S. speak of “peace agreements,” Israel continues to trample international law, morality, and humanity. The so-called peace deals only serve to perpetuate Israel’s illegal occupation. The illegal occupying state of Israel has become not only a threat to the region but also to global peace.

According to the United Nations Charter, humanitarian aid cannot be obstructed. The Fourth Geneva Convention (1949) also obliges warring parties to allow humanitarian assistance to civilians under siege. Similarly, UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/ES-10/27 (2025) and UN Security Council Resolution 1860 (2009) stress the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Israel’s attack on the Global Samoud Flotilla is therefore not only a moral crime but also a grave violation of international law. It is an assault on the fundamental rights of Palestinians and a stain on the conscience of humanity.

Protests have already erupted worldwide in response to this aggression. In Pakistan too, public anger is rising. The people demand that the government raise this issue at the international level, call for an emergency session of the OIC, register strong protest at the UN, and challenge Israel’s unlawful actions at the International Court of Justice.

The issue of Palestine is not merely a territorial conflict; it is a question of humanity itself. Blocking humanitarian convoys is not only a violation of law but also a betrayal of the very principles of human civilization. The pressing question remains: will global institutions fulfill their responsibilities, or will they once again stand as enablers of tyranny, leaving humanity in shame?
