OpenAI has announced several key updates to its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5, aimed at enhancing user experience and system performance for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The company plans to double the rate limits for Plus users as the GPT-5 rollout progresses, allowing for increased access and productivity with the new model.
In addition to expanded access, OpenAI will continue to provide Plus users with the option to use the older GPT-4o model for the foreseeable future. Usage of the older models will be closely monitored as the company evaluates how long to maintain their availability.
OpenAI also addressed a recent technical issue where the autoswitcher feature malfunctioned, impacting GPT-5’s perceived intelligence for several hours. The company has since resolved the issue and is implementing changes to its decision-making algorithm, promising users a smarter and more reliable experience with GPT-5 moving forward.
To improve transparency, OpenAI will make it clearer which model is responding to each user request. Furthermore, the company is working on user interface enhancements to make it easier for users to manually trigger reflection features.
Despite these improvements, OpenAI cautioned that the full rollout of GPT-5 to all users will take some time due to the scale of the changes being implemented. The company reported that API traffic has roughly doubled in the past 24 hours, reflecting growing demand and highlighting the scope of the upgrade.
