The Breathe Pakistan Conference ‘The Air We Breathe’ convened in Lahore today, organised by P&CCD and partner organisations to focus on air pollution challenges affecting Punjab and its cities.
The session ‘A Greener Punjab to Combat Air Pollution’ brought together senior environmental leaders including Silwat Saeed, Secretary Environment Protection & Climate Change Department Punjab; Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General Environmental Protection Agency Punjab; and Tariq Hussain, Project Director Strategic Planning & Implementation Unit Punjab Clean Air Program.
The Secretary outlined several innovative initiatives designed to give citizens timely information and strengthen enforcement, notably the AQI Forecast System, an AI-powered AQI Chatbot, citizen awareness and interactive communication under the #Im4Climate campaign, and expanded EPA on-ground enforcement actions to curb emissions and promote cleaner air across Punjab.
Panelists emphasised a shared vision for a Greener Punjab that is healthier and more climate resilient, stressing coordination between provincial departments, the EPA and the Punjab Clean Air Program to turn digital tools and enforcement into measurable improvements in air quality.
Speakers urged continued collaboration with local authorities, communities and industry to implement the measures discussed and to ensure the new systems reach residents across urban and rural areas, placing the focus on practical steps to achieve a Greener Punjab.
