The Aga Khan University (AKU) has launched its new Health Economics and Policy Group, bringing together experts and professionals from across Pakistan and internationally to advance research and discourse on applied health economics and policy. The inaugural meeting provided a collaborative platform for researchers, faculty, and professionals dedicated to leveraging economic analysis to inform health system decision-making.
Representatives from several esteemed institutions participated in the gathering, including the Institute of Business Administration (Karachi), Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick, and AKU’s Departments of Community Health Sciences and Women and Child Health. This diverse participation underscores the group’s mission to foster nationwide dialogue and collaboration on pressing health economics and policy issues.
The formation of this dedicated group marks a significant step in promoting evidence-based approaches to health policy in Pakistan. Key priorities identified at the meeting include networking opportunities, the development of joint research projects, and capacity building among professionals. The group aims to spearhead initiatives that enhance the capability of stakeholders to integrate robust economic analysis in health system planning and policy formulation.
By establishing a forum for ongoing engagement and expertise sharing, AKU’s Health Economics and Policy Group seeks to drive impactful research collaborations and support the development of effective, data-driven health policies in Pakistan.
