HEC launches 2025 Computer Science curriculum with 14 specializations and ADC recognition to boost employability and Pakistan's digital future.

The Higher Education Commission has unveiled its revised 2025 Computer Science curriculum, introducing 14 advanced specializations designed to prepare students for a fast-evolving global tech market and to support Pakistan’s national digital transformation agenda.

The updated Computer Science framework includes cutting-edge disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Cloud Architecture and Software Engineering for Emerging Technologies, aiming to bridge the gap between academic study and industry requirements through deeper technical training and practical skills development.

The Associate Degree in Computing has been formally recognised as a skills-based qualification, creating new professional pathways and enabling earlier entry into the workforce for students who pursue applied computing routes.

The HEC said the new curriculum will replace the existing Computer Science programme and will be implemented across public and private universities after being developed in collaboration with academia, industry experts and government stakeholders. It aligns with the Undergraduate Education Policy (UEP) 2023 and emphasises hands-on learning, research-led projects and final-year capstone experiences.

A notable feature of the framework is the integration of professional certification modules that allow students to earn industry-recognised credentials alongside their degrees. Education specialists say this combination of academic depth and certified practical skills will significantly enhance the employability and international competitiveness of Pakistani graduates as the country builds an AI-driven, knowledge-based economy.
