The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, in collaboration with Meta, has launched a nationwide AI Literacy program aimed at equipping non-Computer Science faculty with the skills needed for the global digital economy. The initiative targets university instructors from across Pakistan and intends to broaden artificial intelligence competency beyond traditional computer science departments.
Meta is partnering with HEC, the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), and atomcamp to deliver training to 350 non-Computer Science faculty members. The program curriculum focuses on core AI competencies so lecturers can integrate modern digital skills into diverse academic disciplines and prepare students for technology-driven careers.
The announcement came during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event hosted by Meta in collaboration with MoITT, which convened government leaders, industry experts and academics to accelerate AI adoption and digital innovation in Pakistan. Representing HEC at the gathering were Prof. Dr. M Ali Nasir, Adviser (Research and Innovation), Mr. Naveed Tahir, Director (IT) HEC, and Mr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, Project Manager HEDP.
By delivering AI Literacy training to faculty across disciplines, the partners aim to create ripple effects in university curricula and student outcomes, strengthening Pakistan’s readiness for a digital future while supporting educators to bring practical AI concepts into classrooms nationwide.
