A three-day capacity-building and follow-up session at HEC’s Regional Centre in Lahore brought together focal persons from higher education institutions with affiliated colleges to improve data submission and quality. The programme targeted practical steps to ensure institutions submit accurate, consistent and comprehensive information for national use.
The training was led by the HEDR Division and forms part of a nationwide push to consolidate Higher Education Data so policymakers receive reliable inputs. Participants worked through data requirements and common discrepancies to align institutional returns with national standards, reinforcing the role of robust data in evidence-based decision making.
Sessions focused on capacity building for affiliated colleges data for FY 2023-25, follow-up with institutions that have pending or discrepant submissions, and deliberative technical support to clarify reporting procedures. Hands-on guidance and targeted clarifications were provided to focal persons to reduce reporting errors and improve timeliness.
Ghulam Nabi, Director General of the HEC Lahore Regional Centre, stressed the strategic importance of dependable information for informed institutional and policy decisions, noting that improved Higher Education Data directly supports planning across the sector. Emphasis was placed on institutional ownership of data quality and ongoing collaboration between HEC and universities.
Dr. Bashir Khan, In-charge of the HEDR Division, underscored the need for credible statistics to serve the Prime Minister’s Office, Federal Ministries and other high-level forums. He reiterated HEC’s commitment to capacity-building, transparency and continued support to institutions to ensure the national higher education database remains trustworthy and up to date.
