The Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training is accelerating efforts to appoint the next Chairperson of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), emphasizing merit, transparency, and institutional continuity in its ongoing selection process. The initiative follows a recent meeting chaired by Federal Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, reflecting the government’s commitment to securing capable leadership for Pakistan’s higher education sector.

The meeting included active participation from Minister of State Wajiha Qamar, Secretary Nadeem Mehbub, and top academic leaders. Together, they assessed the progress made since the first Search Committee meeting and reviewed key agenda items to ensure the process remains on track. Officials underscored the importance of advancing with urgency to avoid any leadership vacuum in the HEC.

The process has moved forward with significant milestones: approval from the Prime Minister was secured, followed by the issuance of a formal notification. Authorities are now working within a tight timeline, recognizing the need to safeguard institutional continuity and uphold the standards of higher education across the country. The Ministry reaffirmed its pledge to a transparent and merit-based selection to guide the HEC into a new era of visionary leadership.
