The Environmental Monitoring Team from the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency inspected five healthcare facilities in Islamabad’s F-10 Markaz and F-11 sectors to evaluate their hospital waste management practices. The inspections aimed to ensure the facilities were following EPA guidelines designed to protect public health and the environment.

According to findings, most healthcare centers—including Excel Labs, Islamabad Diagnostic Center (IDC), Shifa International Labs, and SARF Hospital—were in compliance. These facilities demonstrated proper use of color-coded waste bins along with effective segregation and storage measures, meeting the agency’s required standards.

However, Maroof International Hospital was found to be non-compliant due to insufficient segregation of medical waste. The Environmental Monitoring Team is now collaborating with the hospital’s administration to help resolve the identified shortcomings.

The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency has reaffirmed its dedication to enforcing sustainable waste management in healthcare settings, with ongoing efforts to improve practices and safeguard the community and environment.
