Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, met with Dr. Zoltan Varga, Ambassador of Hungary to Pakistan, at the HEC Secretariat to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education.
The Chairman welcomed Hungary’s offer of up to 400 fully funded scholarships annually for bachelor, master and PhD studies, describing the Hungary scholarships as a major opportunity for Pakistani students to pursue high-quality degrees abroad.
Dr. Akhtar highlighted the successful resolution of the long-standing recognition issue concerning Hungarian engineering degrees by the Pakistan Engineering Council, a development that will directly benefit Pakistani engineering graduates and facilitate smoother professional pathways.
The Hungarian Ambassador underlined his interest in engaging returning alumni and enhancing partnerships in research, academic mobility, culture and archaeology, with particular emphasis on Pakistan’s ancient sites including Taxila, Harappa and Mohenjo Daro. He also noted that the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference is actively liaising with Pakistan’s Vice Chancellors’ Forum to build stronger institutional linkages.
The Chairman assured full HEC support to connect relevant universities and institutions, promote joint research and student mobility, and deepen academic ties so that Pakistani candidates can fully benefit from the Hungary scholarships and collaborative projects focused on heritage and innovation.
