The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control held its 16th session at Parliament House, Islamabad, where members reviewed the progress of previous recommendations, discussed ongoing legislative matters, and addressed key issues related to drug control, law enforcement, and housing disputes.

During the meeting, the Capital Development Authority reported that cleaning efforts were underway in sectors F-10 and F-11 of Islamabad and would be completed promptly. The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) delivered a comprehensive briefing on its operations, highlighting government initiatives to strengthen the fight against narcotics. In response to questions from MNA Sharmila Sahiba Faruqui Hashaam, the ANF discussed the establishment of the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) by the Sindh Government, challenges faced due to workforce shortages, and the role of the federal Inter-Agency Task Force—a body comprising 32 law enforcement agencies—for nationwide drug interdiction and coordination.

The ANF also informed the Committee about ongoing campaigns to curb drug use in educational institutions in Islamabad. The Committee urged the ANF to adopt even stricter measures and requested a detailed follow-up briefing. It was noted that the recommendations were well-received by the question’s mover.

In terms of legislative matters, the Committee reviewed and referred the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025 for further consideration. Other bills, including those related to corrosive substances assault prevention, dowry restraint, and domestic violence, were deferred for later discussion, while the Islamabad Animal Protection Bill was withdrawn.

The meeting also covered security and law enforcement issues. The Federal Investigation Agency provided updates on the case of Imran Ullah’s recovery, with the Committee stressing the importance of resolving such cases swiftly. It also called for a list of individuals facing difficulties in acquiring visas and passports to be compiled for review by the Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control.

Further, Islamabad Police updated the Committee about ongoing investigations related to recent FIRs. The Committee demanded a comprehensive report on these matters for the next meeting. Expressing concern over the illegal occupation of land belonging to the National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society, the Committee directed the police to urgently coordinate with affected employees to resolve the issue.

The session was attended by Members of the National Assembly, senior officials from relevant ministries, law enforcement agencies, and the Capital Development Authority, reflecting a coordinated approach to addressing pressing issues related to security, law, and public welfare.
