Pakistanis continue to experience slow internet service and difficulties uploading and downloading data after a fault developed in undersea cables near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The disruption has persisted for several days, and service quality may be slightly reduced during peak hours while telecommunications providers work to reroute traffic and restore full capacity.
PTCL Group confirmed that a fault on submarine cables close to Jeddah has partially affected bandwidth on the SMW4 and IMEWE systems. The company said the issue has reduced available international capacity, which is contributing to the slower speeds and upload/download problems being reported by customers across the country.
To limit the impact on users, PTCL’s local teams are arranging alternative bandwidth and rerouting traffic where possible. The provider said its international partner organizations have prioritized repairs and are working to resolve the fault as quickly as possible.
PTCL warned that customers could notice a modest decline in service quality during busy periods while capacity remains constrained, but emphasized that mitigation measures are in place to minimize disruption. The company thanked subscribers for their patience as efforts continue to restore normal service levels.
