Islamabad’s top civic and administrative officials have resolved to accelerate development projects in the capital, improve emergency and disaster services, and construct new sports complexes at various locations. These commitments were announced following a key meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
Senior CDA leaders and department heads reviewed progress on major city projects including the Shaheen Chowk and T Chowk underpasses, extension of the Faizabad Interchange, beautification of the Pakistan Secretariat, installation of street lighting, establishment of 25 cricket grounds and 25 football grounds, and upgrades to Islamabad’s solid waste management system. The construction of the Islamabad Model Jail, further activation of the Gandhara Citizen Center, establishment of new police stations, upgrades at the police academy and hospital, as well as the development of emergency and disaster management systems, were also discussed.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized that improving amenities and beautification of Islamabad remain the CDA’s top priorities. He outlined plans for significant upgrades to city roads and the swift launch of construction on multiple underpasses to resolve traffic problems. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to uplift the city’s parks, improve lighting, and expand sports facilities—including the renovation of football and cricket grounds, establishment of paddle courts, and enhancement of pedestrian bridges.
The CDA chief directed officials to install modern and attractive lighting on all major roads as part of broader beautification efforts. A special committee has already completed surveys of key city thoroughfares to facilitate these upgrades.
The meeting resolved that road upgrades, installation of new lights, landscaping, horticultural improvements, and other development works would begin without delay, and any negligence would not be tolerated.
Special instructions were given to quickly complete the transformation of the CDA Model Nursery into a Gardena Hub, and to ensure the continuous provision of various plants and flowers.
In the area of emergency preparedness, Randhawa called for the modernization of emergency and disaster management equipment, deployment of skilled personnel, coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority, and rapid establishment of new rescue centers across the city. He also ordered the setting up of fire posts in the National Park to enhance fire prevention and response.
Chairman Randhawa stressed the importance of transparency and quality in all projects, announcing that third-party audits will be conducted to ensure high standards are maintained. He reaffirmed the CDA’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to transform Islamabad into a modern, model capital.
