The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has commenced a significant upgrade of Islamabad’s CDA Nursery, now rebranded as the ‘Gardenia Hub’, aiming to bolster the city’s horticultural industry, enhance its environment, and offer new recreational facilities to residents.
Chairman CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and DG Civil Defence Muhammad Ali Randhawa led an inspection visit to the CDA Nursery alongside Member Engineering, Member Environment, and senior CDA officials to review the ongoing transformation. During the visit, Chairman Randhawa emphasized the project’s vision of establishing Islamabad as a prominent player in horticulture.
To accelerate progress, he instructed concerned officials to expedite construction of modern flower shops that would beautify the city and attract visitors. These shops are envisioned not merely as commercial establishments, but also as pleasant recreational destinations for the city’s residents and tourists.
Additionally, Chairman Randhawa directed the immediate construction of advanced, climate-controlled greenhouses. These high-tech structures are designed to optimize plant growth conditions, facilitate botanical research, and enhance productivity. Complementing this effort, a dedicated Tissue Culture Laboratory will also be established to leverage cutting-edge techniques for propagating novel plant varieties, thus significantly enriching Islamabad’s biodiversity.
The Gardenia Hub will feature a dedicated floral display area, showcasing both seasonal and off-season flowers. This floral showcase aims to provide a vibrant and educational environment for residents and visitors alike, further solidifying Islamabad’s status as a city committed to green initiatives.
Highlighting environmental considerations, Chairman Randhawa noted that the Gardenia Hub project aligns seamlessly with CDA’s broader goals of expanding the capital’s green cover and promoting sustainable development. Furthermore, it is expected that this substantial horticultural initiative will bring valuable employment opportunities, with the facility setting new international standards in the gardening and horticultural sectors.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized timely completion of the project as per established deadlines and adherence to global quality standards. He reaffirmed CDA’s commitment to transforming Islamabad into a modern, eco-friendly city, underscoring that the Gardenia Hub initiative would serve as a regional model and a landmark project, significantly enriching the capital city’s beauty, attractiveness, and ecological vibrancy.
