A lacrosse clinic and training camp was recently organized in Islamabad, attracting over forty participants and aiming to boost interest in the sport within the federal capital. The event, hosted by the Islamabad Lacrosse Association, focused on introducing lacrosse to local youth and developing their foundational skills.

Arif Mahmood, Secretary General of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association, attended as the special guest. He commended the dedication of the players and distributed prizes, shields, and certificates to participants, acknowledging their enthusiasm and commitment to learning the game.

The camp featured detailed training sessions led by Sarmad Shabab, Director Technical, and Taifur Zarin, Secretary of the Pakistan Lacrosse Federation. Coaches covered essential lacrosse skills such as passing, catching, cradling, shooting, defensive strategies, and explained the rules of the game.

Key support for organizing the event came from Miss Chaman Mushtaq, Coordinator of the Islamabad Lacrosse Association, and Shafqat Niazi, Sports Officer of the Punjab Sports Department. Their efforts were vital in ensuring a successful clinic. Notably, international cricketer Arshad Bhatti also attended, expressing his encouragement for the development of various sports in Pakistan.

Addressing the participants, Arif Mahmood emphasized the significance of introducing fast-paced sports like lacrosse to the youth, describing the initiative as a positive and necessary step. He urged for continued grassroots efforts to further embed the sport in the local athletic landscape.

The ongoing training camp is being held at Nawaz Sharif Park and will continue for a month, giving players ample opportunity for regular practice, skill enhancement, and match experience. Organizers hope such efforts will lay a solid foundation for the growth of lacrosse in Islamabad and across Pakistan.
