The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, will provide a Japan grant of USD 113,335 (about PKR 32 million) to support community development projects in Maskeenabad, Rawalpindi and Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The grant contracts were signed at the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad on October 7, 2025, by His Excellency Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi and representatives of the two implementing organisations. The selected partners are ACTED and Kaus-e-Kazah Welfare Organization.
ACTED will receive USD 61,200 (approximately PKR 17.3 million) to rehabilitate a solar-powered water supply system in District Nowshera. The project covers construction of a distribution water tank and extension of water pipelines to secure a consistent and safe supply for the community. The intervention is expected to directly benefit 1,470 residents of village Asha khel and relieve women and children from the daily burden of fetching water.
Kaus-e-Kazah Welfare Organization will be granted USD 52,135 (around PKR 14.8 million) for the construction of a primary school in Maskeenabad, District Rawalpindi. The new facility will provide free education to 300 students each year and aims to encourage enrolment of out-of-school children from surrounding neighbourhoods, delivering a lasting benefit for families that cannot afford schooling expenses.
At the signing ceremony Ambassador AKAMATSU expressed hope that these projects, carried out in cooperation with local communities, will raise grassroots living standards. He met with children from Maskeenabad and underlined that education lays the foundation for a prosperous nation. He also reiterated that basic infrastructure and education remain central to Japanβs official development assistance, and that the Japanese government will continue to offer flexible and timely support to local NGOs to improve social wellbeing in Pakistan.
