ISLAMABAD, Sept 25, 2026: Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad has launched its “Awami Mutalibat” signature campaign in the federal capital as part of a countrywide drive, under which at least 2,000 signatures will be collected from every union council of Islamabad.
JI Islamabad Ameer Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa said citizens of Islamabad were badly affected by inflation, petroleum levy and rising electricity prices. He said the signature campaign would provide people an opportunity to convey their voice to the government in an organised manner.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami’s struggle would continue until the government completely abolished the petroleum levy. He added that Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan had set a target of collecting signatures from two crore citizens across the country. To achieve this target, at least 2,000 signatures would be obtained from each union council in Islamabad.
Mr Randhawa appealed to the citizens of Islamabad to take part in the campaign in large numbers so that public demands from the capital could be conveyed to the central leadership and the government with effective representation. He made it clear that the struggle would be intensified if the government did not implement the demands, including abolition of the petroleum levy.
JI Islamabad Secretary General Zubair Safdar said targets had been assigned to office-bearers in every union council and teams had been formed for the campaign. He said a vigorous campaign would be run across the capital.
He said the signature campaign would strengthen the movement against the petroleum levy and present public demands before the government in an organised and effective voice. During the drive, workers would contact citizens in markets, mosques, educational institutions and residential areas across Islamabad.
The demands under the campaign include abolition of levy, bhatta and unjust taxes on petrol and reduction in prices; an end to what JI described as oppressive agreements with independent power producers and reduction in electricity prices; action against flour and sugar mafias and fixation of roti price at Rs10; abolition of free petrol, electricity and luxurious perks for rulers and bureaucracy; and limiting official vehicles to 1,300cc.
