Journalist Faces Death Threats for Helping Assault Victim

Jaranwala (Crime Reporter): Helping a woman in distress has turned into a life-threatening ordeal for citizen Ali Nawaz, He has allegedly been receiving death threats from influential figures in Jaranwala after assisting a victim of sexual assault.

According to sources, a few months ago, two men from the influential Malik family, identified as Abdul Shakoor and Abdul Farooq, allegedly assaulted a young woman in Faisalabad’s Jaranwala tehsil. The victim’s family sought Ali Nawaz’s help in getting justice. Ali assured them of his support and, after conducting a thorough investigation, approached the local police station to file an FIR. However, the authorities initially refused to take any action.

Determined to seek justice, Ali Nawaz, along with the victim’s mother, escalated the matter to higher authorities. As a result, an FIR was finally registered. This, however, did not sit well with the influential Malik family, who began threatening the Ali Nawaz, warning him to stay away from the case. Despite the threats, Ali decided to help victim in this matter.

As the case proceeded to court, the accused allegedly intimidated and bribed the victim and her mother into changing their statements in favor of the perpetrators. Consequently, the court dismissed the case, fining both the investigating officer and applicant for pursuing the matter.

The situation took a violent turn when Ali Nawaz was kidnapped and brutally beaten by the influential figures while returning home from work. His family filed a complaint with the local police, and, thanks to eyewitnesses, the authorities were able to rescue him. Though the immediate dispute was resolved, it escalated into a longstanding enmity

The layman has now appealed to higher authorities to take notice of the threats and ensure his protection.
