Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar Meets PFUJ, RIUJ, and Parliamentary Reporters Association Delegation

Islamabad – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has reiterated the government’s firm commitment to safeguarding the freedom, dignity, and professional protection of journalists, emphasizing that a free press is a pillar of societal progress.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation representing the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), and the Parliamentary Reporters Association.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed serious concern over a recent incident involving RIUJ President Tariq Work. He stated that it is his personal responsibility to address and resolve such issues that affect journalists and hinder their ability to perform their duties independently and safely.

Minister Tarar emphasized that the government will provide full protection and support to journalists in the discharge of their professional responsibilities. He stressed that no compromise will be made when it comes to the safety and dignity of the press.

He added that journalism plays a crucial role in democratic society and the government views a free, independent, and responsible media as essential to strengthening democratic values and promoting national development.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Information Officer Mubashir Hassan and other senior officials, underscoring the government’s ongoing engagement with the journalist community and its resolve to protect their rights and freedoms.
