**Government Committed to Ensuring Justice for Women, Says Parliamentary Secretary Saba Sadiq**
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering justice for women and upholding a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against them, according to Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq. Speaking at a recent meeting on human rights, Sadiq emphasized that authorities will take strict action against any violations and are strengthening prosecution processes to ensure no perpetrator escapes punishment.
Addressing the gathering, which included Secretary of Human Rights Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, SP Operations Syed Kazim Naqvi, Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar, President of the National Press Club Azhar Jatoi, family members of recent victims Sanah Yousuf, Iman Afroz, and Sania, as well as representatives from civil society, lawyers, and media, Sadiq highlighted the government’s resolve to make the cases involving these three young women landmark cases to set a precedent for swift and effective justice.
She condemned the recent incidents involving violence against girls, describing them as highly unfortunate and unacceptable. Saba Sadiq praised the Islamabad police for their prompt action in apprehending the suspects and reiterated the Prime Minister’s directive for absolute zero tolerance towards crimes against women and girls. She stated that the government is formulating a structured plan to ensure strong prosecution and meaningful collaboration between victims’ families and law enforcement agencies.
SP Operations Syed Kazim Naqvi informed the meeting that challans (charge sheets) have been submitted to the courts for all accused, and efforts are underway to ensure they receive appropriate punishment. Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar updated attendees on the legal proceedings, noting that in the high-profile Noor Mukaddam case, the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for the convicted individual, Zahir Jaffer. He added that the prosecution department is dedicated to ensuring all offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Family members of Sanah Yousuf, Iman Afroz, and Sania also addressed the meeting, sharing their perspectives and concerns regarding the cases. Saba Sadiq concluded by stressing that improving society is a collective responsibility and underscored the government’s awareness of its duty to safeguard the rights and dignity of women.
