Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has underscored his country’s commitment to deepening ties with Afghanistan by directing renewed focus on bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, economics, and humanitarian efforts. The directive came during a meeting with Yerkin Tukumov, Special Representative of the President for Afghanistan, as Kazakhstan seeks to solidify its role in fostering stability and development in the region.

During the meeting, President Tokayev highlighted the pivotal role played by the Special Representative in managing Kazakhstan’s evolving relations with Afghanistan’s current authorities. He tasked Tukumov with spearheading efforts to strengthen practical cooperation between the two countries, placing particular emphasis on enhancing partnerships in areas such as commerce, economic engagement, and humanitarian support.

President Tokayev also called for more active utilization of the United Nations Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, headquartered in Almaty. He noted the center’s potential to further Kazakhstan’s objectives of promoting stability and progress within Afghanistan and the broader Central Asian region.

Reaffirming Kazakhstan’s long-term support, President Tokayev stated that his country plans to continue implementing humanitarian and educational initiatives aimed at contributing to Afghanistan’s ongoing security and stability.
