On September 23, 2025, the Project Completion Evaluation Team (GSIC) of the Korea Heritage Agency visited the KOICA Pakistan Office in Islamabad to review outcomes from the Gandhara Project.
The meeting focused on the impact and achievements of the Pakistan Gandhara Cultural Development and Tourism Resource Policy Support Project (’21–’25), examining how the initiative has influenced the national heritage sector and local cultural tourism assets.
The evaluation team sought KOICA’s perspective on ensuring long-term sustainability and the direction of possible follow-up initiatives. KOICA drew on 15 years of project experience to share key insights, highlighting recurring challenges in design, construction and supervision contracting processes that affect project durability and maintenance.
Participants also discussed the newly inaugurated Immersive Gallery, established under the Gandhara Project, as a practical example of heritage presentation and community engagement. The gallery was cited as a platform for further collaboration on conservation, interpretation and tourism development across Pakistan’s Gandhara sites.
The meeting opened avenues for continued dialogue between KHA and KOICA on follow-up actions and sustainable preservation strategies for the Gandhara Project, with both sides exploring cooperative measures to strengthen long-term heritage management and local capacity.
