The first international training in fistula repair at Kohi Goth Hospital has concluded, establishing in Pakistan the first regional centre in Asia focused on fistula treatment and repair. Surgeons from Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan attended alongside colleagues from Gilgit and Peshawar to participate in the programme.
The intensive course emphasised practical surgical approaches and post-operative care so that participating surgeons can now perform basic fistula repair independently. With the focus on building local surgical capacity, the trainees leave better equipped to treat women who previously faced long waits or distant referrals.
By creating a regional hub for fistula repair and training, Kohi Goth Hospital aims to improve access to specialised care across South Asia and strengthen surgical services within Pakistan. The newly trained surgeons are expected to replicate these techniques in their home centres, expanding timely treatment options for patients.
This milestone in fistula repair training underscores a commitment to practical skills transfer and regional collaboration, enabling more sustainable care pathways for women affected by obstetric and other pelvic fistulas.
