The KOICA Alumni Association Pakistan and the KOICA Pakistan Office convened their 2025 annual reception and knowledge sharing seminar in Islamabad on October 7, 2025, drawing alumni, government officials and development practitioners to discuss practical approaches for Pakistan’s sustainable development.
Senior representatives at the event included Mr. Je-ho Yeon, Country Director of the KOICA Pakistan Office; Mr. Muhammad Humair Karim, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division; Mr. Asmat Nawaz, Additional Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme; and Dr. Ikram Ul Haq, President of the KOICA Alumni Association Pakistan and Director General of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
In his opening remarks Mr. Je-ho Yeon described the alumni network as a lasting sign of partnership between Korea and Pakistan, saying “The KOICA Alumni Association stands as a lasting symbol of the friendship and cooperation between Korea and Pakistan. As the association continues to grow, I believe our partnership and mutual trust will become even stronger. KOICA, together with KAAP, remains committed to advancing Pakistan’s sustainable development.” Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim highlighted KOICA’s role across sectors, noting the organisation’s contributions to water, health, energy, education and rural development.
Alumni presented research findings aimed at improving agricultural productivity and building climate resilience in Pakistan’s water management systems, sharing lessons learned from KOICA fellowship experiences and local applications. Presentations focused on applied solutions that can inform policy and programmes at federal and provincial levels.
In closing Dr. Ikram Ul Haq reflected on the past year and future collaboration, saying the reception was “a meaningful occasion to reflect on the achievements of the past year and to explore future directions for collaboration.” He added that building on knowledge and experience accumulated through KOICA and the alumni network will help strengthen Korea–Pakistan cooperation and promote sustainable development.
To date 1,841 Pakistani participants have completed KOICA fellowship programmes.
