Dr Samira Shams, chairperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW), attended the Franco–German Human Rights Prize ceremony at the French residence in Islamabad at the invitation of the French ambassador.
The event honoured individuals recognised for their contributions to human rights, justice and human dignity. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Samira Shams said that international acknowledgement of human rights work takes on added importance when principled stands against political vindictiveness and advocacy for marginalised voices are urgently needed.
Dr Samira Shams highlighted that minority communities in Pakistan continue to face a range of challenges and that addressing these requires coordinated measures and stronger policy responses. She emphasised the need for sustained efforts to ensure inclusion and protection for the most vulnerable.
Expressing gratitude to the French ambassador for the invitation, Dr Samira Shams reaffirmed the KPCSW commitment to persistently work for the protection of rights, the welfare of disadvantaged and sensitive groups, and the preservation of the rule of law.
