The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable international labor mobility with the launch of the EU-Pakistan-Italy Labour Mobility seminar, held under the SkillNet project. The initiative aims to connect skilled Pakistani workers with employment opportunities in Italy, while supporting training, qualification recognition, and safer migration routes.

EU Ambassador Riina Kionka described the seminar as a “pivotal moment” in developing a cooperative framework for labor mobility between the EU and Pakistan. She highlighted the project’s potential to benefit both Pakistani talent and European labor markets.

Funded by the European Union, the SkillNet project is designed to facilitate job placements for Pakistani workers in Italy, where there is growing demand for skilled labor. In addition to matching candidates with jobs, SkillNet emphasizes comprehensive skills training and the mutual recognition of qualifications, thereby enhancing participants’ employability and integration abroad.

A key component of the project is its focus on safer migration. By providing clear information, advisory services, and structured migration pathways, SkillNet seeks to protect migrants from exploitation and ensure their experiences abroad are positive and productive.

Officials and stakeholders from Pakistan, the EU, and Italy participated in the seminar, signaling strong multilateral support for expanding legal avenues and strengthening cooperation in labor mobility. The SkillNet project is expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other sectors and regions.
