Polio vaccinator Ayesha Raza in Lahore continues door-to-door work despite disability, backed by WHO and partners to help end polio in Pakistan.

Ayesha Raza is a polio survivor from Lahore who serves as one of approximately 400,000 WHO-supported polio vaccinators in Pakistan, moving from door to door to ensure children receive life-saving immunization.

“It’s not easy for me to walk during polio campaigns, but I cannot miss the chance to bring hope and resilience to the children of Pakistan,” she says, describing the determination that drives her work despite physical challenges.

Backed by the World Health Organization and partners including the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, the Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative, United Nations Pakistan, Rotary International and the Ministry of National Health Services, vaccinators like Ayesha are central to outreach efforts across urban and rural areas.

Ayesha’s story highlights the vital role of community-based polio vaccinators in building trust with families, delivering vaccines and keeping momentum in Pakistan’s campaign to end polio. Her work underscores how survivors are contributing directly to public health resilience and the national drive to end polio.
