**Pakistani Ambassador Meets Regional Representative in Madeira to Strengthen Bilateral Ties**
The Pakistani Ambassador to Portugal, Muhammad Khalid Ejaz, met this morning with Ireneu Barreto, the Representative of the Republic for the Region of Madeira, to discuss opportunities for enhanced cooperation and to recognize the positive role of the Pakistani community in the region.
During the meeting, held at the São Lourenço Palace, Ireneu Barreto highlighted the significant contribution of the Pakistani community to Madeira’s economy, describing it as an outstanding example of integration. Both officials reflected on the longstanding relationship between Portugal and Pakistan, which recently marked 75 years of diplomatic ties—a historic partnership characterized by deep and multi-faceted connections.
The discussion focused on several areas of mutual interest, including current geopolitical dynamics and the need to further strengthen economic and political relations between the two countries. Both sides expressed a desire to explore new ways to expand bilateral ties in line with their shared history.
This meeting marked Ambassador Ejaz’s first official visit to Madeira. In addition to diplomatic discussions, the talks also covered the current state of tourism in the region and prospects for cooperation, particularly in scientific research and development. Both parties affirmed their openness to further dialogue and collaboration in key sectors to foster growth and exchange between Madeira and Pakistan.
