Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, has been named the “Ambassador of Margalla Hills National Park” in recognition of his contributions to promoting environmental sustainability and green initiatives within Islamabad’s iconic park.

The honorary title was conferred on Dr. Beker by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, during a formal meeting at CDA Headquarters. The meeting highlighted growing collaboration between Ethiopia and Pakistan in promoting urban greenery, clean city initiatives, and institutional exchanges.

During their discussion, Ambassador Beker outlined Ethiopia’s ambitious corridor development project, which aims to transform urban landscapes under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali. The project includes infrastructure upgrades, large-scale tree plantations, and riverside beautification efforts intended to elevate living standards across Ethiopian cities.

Building on this vision, Dr. Beker also proposed creating a sister city partnership between Addis Ababa and Islamabad, a move designed to strengthen cultural and commercial ties between the two capitals.

As part of Ethiopia’s #GreenLegacy Initiative, the Ambassador announced a forthcoming tree plantation campaign led by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad. He invited the CDA Chairman to participate in the initiative to raise public awareness about climate change and environmental stewardship.

Chairman Randhawa shared updates on Islamabad’s ongoing infrastructural and development projects, emphasizing the CDA’s commitment to transforming the capital into a modern, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable city. He commended Ambassador Beker’s leadership in supporting green campaigns, particularly those benefitting Margalla Hills National Park, and expressed interest in learning from Ethiopia’s sustainable urban development experiences.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Ethiopia and Pakistan to advancing smart urban solutions and deepening mutual cooperation in environmental and developmental projects.
