**Capacity-Building Program for Secondary Teachers in Mathematics and English Launched in Karachi**
A 12-day capacity-building training program for secondary school teachers specializing in Mathematics and English has commenced in Karachi. The workshop, hosted at the Beach Luxury Hotel, is part of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-assisted Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP), managed by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department (SELD). Approximately 200 teachers are expected to participate in this second batch of training sessions.
The training curriculum has been newly developed and aims to enhance teachers’ pedagogical skills with a particular focus on student learning outcomes (SLO)-based teaching. Key components include fostering gender inclusiveness, integrating information and communication technology (ICT) for effective instruction, and encouraging critical thinking skills among students.
By the end of the program, organizers hope to inspire a fundamental shift in classroom practices—moving from traditional rote learning to concept-based education, and from teacher-centered methods to learner-centered methodologies. The training also introduces teachers to modern assessment techniques, including OMR (Optical Mark Recognition)-based and electronic marking systems.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior management from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of SSEIP, representatives from Maxwell Stamp Limited (the teachers’ training and assessment firm implementing the program), and master trainers. Together, they welcomed participants and underscored the importance of adopting innovative teaching methods to improve the overall quality of secondary education in Sindh.
