Federal Health Minister Chairs Meeting on Digitization of Medical Device Regulations
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal chaired a high-level meeting of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to assess preparations for the digitization of medical device regulations. The session was attended by Federal Health Secretary Syed Waqar-ul-Hasan, Additional Secretary of Health, and the Chief Information Officer of DRAP.
During the meeting, participants reviewed ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s health sector. Minister Kamal emphasized that significant reforms are underway to ensure the quality of healthcare services, stressing that there would be no compromise on the quality of medicines and public health standards in the country.
Highlighting the vast economic potential of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors, Kamal reiterated the government’s commitment to harnessing and expanding these industries. He announced that the regulatory system for medical devices is being digitized, with registration and licensing processes soon to be available online. According to the minister, this shift towards digitization represents a major step forward in modernizing the country’s regulatory framework.
Minister Kamal further stated that the government aims to transform DRAP into an efficient, modern, transparent, and people-friendly institution. Efforts are being made to ensure timely access to high-quality and safe medicines for the public. Additionally, the minister revealed that a comprehensive strategy has been developed to increase exports in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors, supporting the country’s economic growth.
