The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has referred cases of 10 doctors accused of medical negligence to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the provincial health department for further action. This move follows final decisions by the PHC Board of Commissioners concerning complaints of medical malpractice and negligence.
As part of its recent actions, the PHC Board imposed fines totaling Rs 9.85 million on healthcare facilities for administrative shortcomings and Rs 6.1 million on doctors and nurses found guilty of negligence. Additionally, a case involving a nurse has been forwarded to the Pakistan Nursing Council for disciplinary proceedings, and nurses found to be negligent were fined a total of Rs 300,000.
Since becoming fully operational, the Board of Commissioners has held eight meetings in which 66 cases were thoroughly reviewed and decisions issued after providing all parties the opportunity to be heard. Furthermore, the Board has examined and finalized an additional 48 cases.
The Board of Commissioners also directed the Directorate of Complaints to prioritize prompt resolution of applications and ensure that all pending cases are addressed without unnecessary delay, aiming to provide timely justice to affected individuals.
