Mohsin Nawaz urges policy action to build youth sports platform, ease equipment duties and set up training ranges to boost Pakistan's shooting prospects.

Mohsin Nawaz met with Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary to present a proposal for a youth development platform aimed at strengthening non-traditional sports in Pakistan and addressing critical infrastructure gaps.

With a two-decade career behind him, Mohsin Nawaz said he wants to train the next generation of shooters and pass on skills earned internationally. He stressed the need for government support to expand opportunities for young people through organised training and accessible facilities.

Nawaz carries the distinction of 10 international F-Class individual medals, the most by any Pakistani, including silver and bronze at the 2024 European Long Range Shooting Championship and silver at the 155th NRA UK Imperial Championship. He is the first Pakistani to hold life memberships of both the UK and USA National Rifle Associations and has been nominated for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Beyond his competitive record, Mohsin Nawaz is a certified sports psychologist and emotional wellbeing coach who emphasised that physical facilities must be matched by psychological support. “Mental strength is the real weapon,” he said, calling for systems that shield athletes from negativity during international events and address how mental state affects metabolic health.

Nawaz outlined practical obstacles facing Pakistani shooters, including heavy import duties on precision equipment and a lack of adequate ranges. He proposed establishing 50-metre practice ranges in major cities combined with policy reforms to ease equipment acquisition, arguing that reduced customs duties would help Pakistan send competitive teams to events such as the 2026 World Championship.

Representing KAHLES Sports Optics and Peregrine Bullets as a global brand ambassador, Mohsin Nawaz also recently set two national records at the 3rd F-Class National Long Range Shooting Championship in Jhelum. He said streamlined access to gear and better training infrastructure would create a clearer pathway for emerging talent.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal acknowledged Nawaz’s self-made success as a model for aspiring athletes and indicated a willingness to review policy options. The discussion opens the possibility of greater government attention to sports beyond cricket and hockey, though concrete measures have yet to be announced.
