Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal visited Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University in Islamabad for briefings on its administration, academic programs and research, and urged the institution to produce highly competent, compassionate doctors while strengthening research, medical ethics training and modern preventive disciplines such as Lifestyle Medicine.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Tanveer Khaliq briefed the minister on the university’s administrative affairs, academic offerings and ongoing research initiatives. Dr. Khaliq said the university is committed to raising teaching and research standards and to providing medical education and training that meet international quality benchmarks.
Minister Kamal stressed the need for the university to focus on producing doctors capable of bringing prestige to Pakistan at home and abroad. He highlighted the importance of compassion and respect in clinical care, noting that public trust in physicians plays a central role in healing. “Doctors are regarded as healers by the public,” he said. “When physicians treat patients with compassion, humility, and respect, the healing process is already half achieved.”
Emphasizing the human dimension of healthcare, the minister said patients turn to medical institutions during their most vulnerable moments and that doctors must safeguard patients’ dignity as well as provide effective treatment. He also called on the university to enhance research and hands-on training in medical ethics and to place greater emphasis on modern preventive fields such as Lifestyle Medicine to promote disease prevention and healthier living across society.
