On 9th December 2025 a meeting on national challenges related to water scarcity and food security took place at the Parliament House in Islamabad, chaired by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The session brought together Members of the National Assembly, Chairman WAPDA Lieutenant General (R) Muhammad Saeed, and senior officials from the Ministry of Water Resources to discuss coordinated responses to the pressing issues.
The Speaker stressed that water scarcity is one of the most serious national issues and requires urgent and effective measures from all stakeholders. Opposition members were specifically invited to ensure a comprehensive national strategy emerges from collective deliberation, reflecting the need for inclusive dialogue across party lines.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that safeguarding Pakistan’s future depends on protecting water resources and tackling food security challenges. He underlined that national unity and collaborative efforts are essential to find sustainable solutions, insisting that resolving these challenges depends on joint decision-making and broad consensus.
During the meeting Chairman WAPDA Lieutenant General (R) Muhammad Saeed provided a detailed briefing on the country’s water challenges, the status of available reservoirs, ongoing projects and future requirements. The briefing aimed to inform lawmakers about current capacities and the actions needed to address water scarcity and support food security planning.
Participants agreed on the importance of continued consultations and coordination among federal institutions, parliamentary representatives and technical agencies to develop a durable response to water scarcity and ensure long‑term food security for the country.
